Stichting Vredesimpuls promotes peace and reconciliation
by caring for the soul of a place.

We research, preserve and make public the history of the people
who were driven, dispossessed, persecuted or killed from that place —
and bring their descendants together with the people who live there now.

RECIPROCITY

You do not research the history of your own group,
but that of the people who were driven
from the place where you live now.
The place decides who the other is.

A Viennese in a house from which Jewish families were taken away.
An Israeli on the land of a Palestinian village depopulated in 1948.
Whoever lives on land from which indigenous peoples were driven.

Whoever helps restore the roots of the other
restores their own.

RESEARCH

Archives, names, addresses, fates.
Every participant researches the families
who once lived where they live now.

GATHERING

At the place itself, descendants
and present inhabitants meet —
and the driven receive a dignified farewell.

Two carpenters from neighbouring villages in Vorarlberg,
Pius Kaufmann and Johannes Nigsch,
made the table high in the Alps —
at the moment of parting, after seven years side by side.
It was carried to the place where it happened.
